Port Royal, located in southern Naples, is one of the most coveted areas in the city. Situated right on the Gulf Coast, it offers everything a water or sun lover could want.
With quick access to beaches and the culture of downtown Naples, Port Royal is ideally situated for someone who wants it all at their fingertips.
The history of this luxury enclave is quite unexpected. Not quite a century ago, this exclusive area was just swampland.
A Chicago advertising executive named John Sample had a vision for this part of Florida and began purchasing and developing the land. This was quite an undertaking as it involved dredging and filling the acreage to create canals and peninsulas on which the luxury homes would sit.
If you’re a historical seafaring buff, you may notice that the streets of Port Royal carry a similar theme. With names like “Rum Row” and “Spyglass Lane”, they all relate to the pirate life of yesteryear.
Even the community’s name, Port Royal, is names after the Jamaican hub of pirate activity back in the 1600s. This is because John Sample himself was intrigued by pirate history.

Although secluded from the hustle and bustle of the city, it is only a short drive to Naples Botanical Garden, Naples Zoo, and Naples Airport.
If you’re looking to get further outside the city, a short drive to 41 or 75 can quickly get you north to Fort Myers and Sanibel Island, or east to Miami.
